Skills

A Skill is a saved automation inside your Skynet workspace that performs a specific task or workflow on your behalf. It can be triggered on a schedule, invoked on demand, or activated automatically when the right conditions are met. Skills are generated from observation and instruction. Not from scratch. Not from code. Not from rule configuration.

This is what makes Skills fundamentally different from traditional automation tools. You do not build them. You do not configure them. You approve them. The system does the heavy lifting, and your team stays in control of every step.

What Skills Are

A Skill captures a repeatable workflow and turns it into a reusable asset inside your workspace. Once a Skill is active, it runs on its own within the boundaries you define. It can pull data from connected tools, process information through specialized models, and deliver results back to your team.

Skills are created in two ways:

  • From observation

    The Skynet Copilot watches how your team works. When it notices a pattern repeating across meetings, chats, emails, or connected tools, it proposes a Skill that automates that pattern. You do not have to identify the opportunity. The system brings it to you.

  • From instruction

    You can describe a Skill in plain language. Tell the workspace what you want it to do and how often. The system interprets your request, identifies the relevant tools and data sources, and builds the Skill for you. No code. No configuration panels. No scripting.

Both paths produce the same result: a governed, auditable automation that runs inside your workspace and respects your existing permission structures.

How Skills Work

The lifecycle of a Skill follows four stages. Each stage is designed to keep your team informed and in control.

Detection

The Copilot continuously monitors work streams across your connected tools. It looks for repeating actions and flags them as automation candidates. This happens in the background. No one has to stop working to document a workflow. The system recognizes patterns on its own.

For example, if your team manually pulls the same metrics from three different dashboards every Monday morning, the Copilot notices. It identifies the tools involved, the data being accessed, and the output being produced. That pattern becomes a candidate for automation.

Proposal

When the Copilot identifies a viable automation opportunity, it presents a specific proposal. The proposal outlines what the Skill will do, which tools it will use, what data it will access, and what the output will look like. This is not a vague suggestion. It is a concrete plan you can review, adjust, or reject.

Approval

Nothing runs without explicit approval. You review the proposal, modify it if needed, and authorize it. This is the human-in-the-loop principle that defines Skynet’s approach to autonomous work. The system proposes. Humans decide.

Execution

Once approved, the Skill runs automatically within the boundaries you set. You can monitor its activity, edit its parameters, or retire it at any time. Every execution is logged. Every tool access is recorded. You always know what is running, when it ran, and what it touched.

Creating Skills

There are two methods for creating a Skill. Both are designed for non-technical users. No engineering support required.

  • Method 1: Approve a Copilot Proposal

    This is the zero-effort path. The system identifies the opportunity and brings it to you. You review the proposal, make adjustments if needed, and approve. The Skill is live. This method is powerful because it captures workflows your team may not even realize are repetitive. The Copilot sees patterns across the entire workspace and surfaces them as actionable proposals.

  • Method 2: Describe It in Plain Language

    Type what you want in natural language. The system interprets your description, identifies the relevant tools and data sources, and builds the Skill. This works for one-time tasks or ongoing automations. For example, you might type: "Every Friday at 9am, pull the top 10 open deals from our CRM, summarize the status of each, and send the summary to the sales channel in Slack." The system understands the intent, connects to the right tools, and creates the Skill. You review and approve.

This is a core differentiator for Skynet. Engineers are not required. Domain experts, operations managers, and team leads can build automations directly. The barrier to entry is language, not code.

Skill Sharing and Team Collaboration

On Teams and Enterprise plans, Skills are shared across the workspace through Unified Memory. One person creates a Skill, and it becomes available to the entire team. This creates a compounding library of automations that represents your team’s collective operational knowledge.

Skill Control and Governance

Every Skill operates within a governance framework that keeps your organization in control.

  • Authorize

    No Skill activates without explicit approval. The system proposes, humans decide. This is non-negotiable.

  • Edit

    Modify any Skill at any time. Change the schedule, adjust the tools, update the output format. The Skill adapts immediately.

  • Retire

    Remove any Skill that is no longer relevant. Retired Skills stop running, but their execution history remains accessible for audit purposes.

  • Audit

    Review what each Skill does, when it runs, and what tools it accesses. Full observability into every automation in your workspace.

Skills inherit the access controls and permission structures of the workspace. A Skill can only access tools and data that the approving user has permission to use. If a team member does not have access to a particular data source, any Skill they create cannot access it either. Permissions flow through. Security is never bypassed.

Templates: A Head Start for Common Workflows

Skynet provides pre-built templates for common use cases across departments. These templates are starting points, not finished Skills. The system adapts them to your specific tools, data sources, and preferences.
