Payroll & Compensation

Payroll is a job where being right ninety-nine percent of the time is a failure. The promotion that went into the HR system but not the pay run. The contractor still being paid three weeks after their contract ended. The relocation that changed a tax jurisdiction and nobody told payroll. Each of these is a small clerical thing, and each one lands on a specific person’s bank statement as a real problem in their real life. They almost always get discovered by the employee, which is the worst possible way to find out.

Then there is the slower version: pay drifting out of alignment over years of individual decisions, each defensible on its own, adding up to a distribution nobody would have designed on purpose. Skynet runs the check on the first and gives you the visibility on the second.

How it works

step 01

Reconcile before the run

The agent compares the upcoming pay run against your HR system — active status, current salary, effective dates, hours, changes approved since the last cycle. Anything that does not match gets flagged before the run goes out rather than after.

step 02

Catch what does not look right

Beyond exact mismatches, the agent looks for the shapes that signal a mistake: a pay change with no corresponding approved record, someone still on payroll past their end date, an amount well outside their own history. Every flag names the specific discrepancy and the record it conflicts with.

step 03

Surface the compensation picture

Across the organization, the agent analyzes pay against level, role, tenure, and location, and surfaces where similar work is being paid differently. This is input to a review, not a conclusion — some gaps have good explanations, and the agent does not know which ones.

step 04

A human decides everything

The agent flags, explains, and drafts. It does not adjust a salary, approve a run, or move money. Every finding goes to payroll or the people team as something to look at, and access to compensation data is scoped to the people who should have it.

Build it from a prompt

Point it at the cycle and it runs the check every time.

Errors get caught while they are still a correction rather than an apology. Payroll runs the exception list instead of eyeballing a spreadsheet, and the compensation review starts from a real picture of where pay actually sits rather than whichever cases someone happened to raise. Every decision stays with a person.
